Where does all the money go?

Reach out to your neighbours and the poor! One of the factors that does not allow those with wealth to help the poor is the spirit of consumerism and luxury that exists in society. It is a great calamity for a society if the desire to consume increases day by day among the people and if all members of society desire to consume more; to eat more and eat different varieties of food; to wear different types of clothing and follow the latest fashion trends; to buy the latest home appliances and other luxury items; just for the sake of having a luxurious lifestyle. A great amount of wealth and money is wasted in these ways and as a result, that money cannot be used on the path of pleasing Allah and solving the collective problems of the people.
