7 – Getting started with tadabbur
Before you get started, keeping in mind the following points will help you:
When contemplating upon the Qur’ān, it is important to bear in mind that any point we may understand from the verse, is a limited and surface-level meaning of the verse. The verses of the Qur’ān have layers of meaning. So we should never think (or say) that “this verse means such and such and nothing else!” Rather we should say “one of the possible meanings of this verse may be […]”
It is always a good idea to share the points that we come across during tadabbur with a scholar who can help us understand more.
Remember that the Speaker in the Qur’ān is Allāh Himself. Thus, every word and letter of the Qur’ān carries infinite wisdom. The Qur’ān is an ocean filled with treasures. There is no end to its wonders. It just takes a diver to make that leap into its heavenly waters. The first leap into the water is none other than tadabbur! It takes some amount of time and effort to learn to swim, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never want to leave the freshwater!
