What did the others eat?
He had just arrived.. It was 1:30AM. We were in a meeting, when Ibrahim’s friend, who had accompanied him, said, “Ibrahim hasn’t eaten dinner yet. If it’s possible, please bring some food for him before the meeting starts”. I went and brought two plates of rice, beans, and two cans of fish.
Ibrahim was about to start eating his dinner. As he was about to take the first bite, he stopped and asked me, “What did the others have for dinner?”
I said, “the same food that you are eating”.
He said, “the same exact food that you’ve served me?”
I replied, “yes, the same food”.
He asked, “did they have the canned fish as well?”
“The canned fish will be served for lunch tomorrow”, I answered.
The moment I said that, he put down the morsel and said, “then give me the canned fish tomorrow”.
I said, “Haji Jaan! I swear to God! They will all eat fish tomorrow”.
He said, “I swear to God that I will also have it tomorrow”.
No matter how much we insisted, he would not accept. His devotion to the others did not allow him to have a meal that was even a little better than theirs.
This was a story from the life of Shahid Ibrahim Hemmat. A young and active youth who gave his all for Allah’s sake, and left this world as a shahid.
